(NOTE: This review is for the 128GB version of the Samsung 830 SSD. If you are seeing it under any other size or type of 830, it is because Amazon cross-posts similar product reviews together and we reviewers have no control over it)

I just upgraded my C: drive from a RAID 0 array of two WD Caviar Black 7200RPM 32MB cache volumes to a pair of the Samsung 830 Series 128GB 2.5" SATA III Desktop kit (also put in RAID 0). Although the 830 promises compatibility with SATA III @ 6GB/s, my RAID controller is SATA II @ 3GB/s.

Because this was my C: drive, manually using Samsung's tools to put together the RAID array was out of the question. However, I can tell you that I played with both the Intel Matrix Storage Manager and its replacement, the Intel RapidStorage Technology. Both work with these drives just as easily as any other.

The difference between the "Laptop" and "Desktop" kits is as follows:
Laptop: comes with an external SATA-to-USB cable for plugging the drive straight into a USB port (it will work without having to have its own power source) and a plastic mounting frame that can be used to install the drive in a wider laptop bay.
Desktop: comes with a mounting bracket for fitting the drive into a 3.5" bay, screws to secure the drive, a power connector (4-pin Molex from your PC's power supply to standard SATA power connector on the drive), and a standard SATA data cable.

Both come with Norton Ghost and the 128GB and larger sizes also come with a free download voucher for Arkham City (download expires in March 2012!)

Like all SSDs, the 830 is unbelievably light. It also has a pretty sleek black brushed metal finish that almost makes you wish your hard drives had a window so you could show them off. For me, the drive slid easily into place and once we were off and running, there was no looking back.

These drives are amazing! My Windows Experience Index (a rating from 1.0 to 7.9) pegged the ceiling at 7.9. Although Samsung claims sequential reads of up to 520MB/s and sequential write speeds of 320MB/s, I got great response out of my RAID array despite the slower SATA II controller. I took a read of the drive after having installed Windows 7 Professional 64-bit edition. Passmark's benchmarks are:
Sequential Read: 490.5
Sequential Write: 471.1
Random Seek + RW: 412.4

The box also included the Samsung Magician, a very easy-to-use collection of utilities and links to any documentation you might want to read on the drive, from the simple & friendly to the deep-down technical. There are performance benchmarking tools but I'm sorry to say that those were unable to detect my drive, most likely because of the fact that it's in a RAID configuration. A nice touch was that with the click of a button, the Samsung software will automatically make the SSD adjustments you'd normally have to do yourself. It will give you a list so you can pick and choose, but what we're referring to is disabling ReadyBoost and Superfetch and turning off Windows Disk Defragmenter.

Arkham City is gorgeous. Load times are about 10-15 seconds. Skyrim is gorgeous. Neither stutters. And of course programs load lightning-fast. Accessing things across a home network is still laggy, but this is the nature of network latency and not the fault of the drive: once you launch a program, it's ready to go.

I was hesitant to dive into SSD for my main desktop. Now that I have the Samsung 830, I have no regrets at all. This blazing peek into the future of hard drives was money well spent.

TIP: I use PerfectDisk 12.5 from Raxco to optimize my SSDs: it has the ability to properly optimize an SSD without the wear and tear of a typical defragmenter.

Acer AS5250-BZ669 vs. other acer/hp I've owned : Acer AS5250-BZ669 15.6-Inch Laptop

First let me start by saying I purchased this Laptop during the Black Friday Lighting deals so I only paid $249.99 but even at its current price of $472.93 the Acer AS5250-BZ669 15.6-Inch Laptop is pretty impressive.
The most important specs when purchasing a Laptop are the Processor, RAM, and Hard drive Memory and while looking for a laptop I found that for the $350 to $500 price range most brands offer relatively the same specs. They have between 14.1 to 15.4 inch screens, this one has a 15.6 and is LED back-lit. They also usually have between 250GB to 320GB hard drives and 2GB to 3GB of RAM. This model has a 500GB hard-drive and 4GB-DDR3 RAM, this is a welcome increase to this price range that you wont find on most models... If you run a lot of "process heavy" programs and need them to run at the same time this RAM amount is quite important and this model can be upgraded up to 8GB-DDR3 RAM if you need more...
After that it gets pretty simple, the finish is very nice and doesn't show finger prints like most hp and Toshiba models. It is also one of the thinnest laptops I have see out there other than of course the Mac Book Air models of its kind. There is a built in web-cam and for all you video chatters Skype comes preinstalled and is very easy to setup on this unit. The keyboard does include the 10-key numbers panel which is very good for students or any financial related business people.
I do want to point out that the laptop is a charcoal GRAY NOT BLACK like the description states.
Overall this is a great laptop for the price the screen is very clear and CAN be used even with moderate sunlight unlike most regular LCD laptop screens. The unit seems to be very well built and sturdy, doesn't have a lot of small pieces glued together to make the shell like most HP models. I will update this review if I have any problems but so far I couldn't be happier with this purchase

So far GREAT : Samsung UN46D6500 46-Inch 1080p 120 Hz 3D LED TV (Black)

I have been shopping televisions online for about a month, comparing specs, reading reviews, and looking at places like Consumer Reports and CNET for advice. About all I learned is that it can be pretty confusing. I decided that I wanted to be able to stream movies from sites like Netflix and (because of the location of my router)that I would need a wifi television. I also learned that "wifi ready" does not really mean wifi ready, it just means that the tv is ready for you to spend another $80 or so on an adapter. Therefore this cost had to be factored in. I decided on LED over plasma because of the burn-in issues with plasma.

I had narrowed my choice down to Sharp, Samsung, or Sony. All of them seemed to have an excellent picture, weak sound, and some problems with light bleeding. I was ready to buy a 46 inch Samsung D6000 for about $1000 when I found this D6500 with built in wifi (no adapter needed), 3D capability, 2 pairs of glasses, and a free blue ray player for less than $1200. I decided this was about what the D6000 would cost after I bought the adapter and blu ray player. And I would get 3D as a bonus.

So far, the television has been great. I went through all of the set-up stuff and had the thing connected, firm wear updated, and was watching a program in less than 30 minutes. The picture seemed fine right out of the box so I didn't mess with it. The sound is better that I expected. It is loud enough and the quality is fine for regular programs, but I might add a soundbar later to enhance the movie experience. I had expected to buy the soundbar right away because I have a 24,000 btu air conditioner roaring about 20 feet from the television and I was concerned that the "micro speakers" in any flat screen would not be sufficient, but I run the sound up to about 65 (on a scale of 100) and I have no problem hearing. I do have a small amount of light bleeding at each corner. The ONLY time this can be noticed is in a very dark room on a black screen that has a small lighted area. (My music channels have an information box that floats around a black screen, and this is when I can see a slight bleeding in the corners) I can't see it any other time and I don't consider it a problem.

After Dish hooked me up to high-def, the closed caps would not come on. Dish said it was a television problem and Samsung told me that closed caption would not work when an HDMI cable is used. So, as they say, when all else failed I read the instructions. The book for the Dish receiver clearly told me how to turn the caps on, and they work great.

I tried the 3D feature, using some of the sample clips that are include, and found it interesting, but not something I really want to watch. My wife, on the other hand, loves it. So, I guess I am glad we have it but glad we did not spend extra to get it.

I would buy this television again.
